This Cambodia Service Learning really let me learn a lot.
Be it physically,mentally or emotionally.
It lets me reflect on myself, seeing those women there at the Widow Island
which i spent the most days on ,reminds me how fortunate i am.
Always take things for granted.
I should be contented for who i am and what i can do now.
People the are so naive, they dont know what’s the world outside like.
And maybe this is much more better.
No worries and burden.
Even if they had, their worries is just superficial.
Like, today if i didnt fish enough to sell, what am i going to eat ?
Rather than us,in the other side of the world.
Worrying that what if this person betray me or how much can i trust this person.
Is much more perplex and complicated, you see?
I came across a woman at Widow Island that gave me a deep impression.
She is mentally ill and being ignored by the villagers and knowing that we cant help her that much just make me feel so helpless at times.
Even if we can i guess its only a certain extend.
As we are not staying there for long.
Also, the villagers tried to sell the friendship bands to us,
they thought they can sell it to us giving them the little hope
that we can actually help them earn a little bit for better life at least for the next few days.
But in the end we cant due to some reasons and seeing them pestering us just let me feel ashamed of myself,
that they are trying so hard to earn their money.
And i could never imagine i could do this in Singapore.
At there,i saw teamwork, perseverance, encouragement is really important.
When you are so worn out and there is always a partner to pass to and you do farming,
make the work a lot easier, faster and happier.
At times, really felt like giving up as i felt betrayed in the start.
Thinking that we were suppose to do this together.(Ploughing)
And i was there again thinking if they already not doing and me, myself is like blaming .
Then,We wont be able to finish.
So i tried to show with encouragement of Miss Anna.
As i believe actions speak louder than words .
I guess its also servant leadership, As a senior i should show them.
In time to come, We are not doing because we want to finish fast nor as many as we can brag about but i think every hole we dig is deep and wide to put the 5holes.
Its the quality and the quantity.
I now also appreciate the food that i have now.
Farming for only 2days was my toughest thing that i have ever done in my life so far.
I always thought that farming isnt that difficult, but when i start doing it.
I felt the hardship of the farmers.
And sometimes i do pity them that even they did it so diligently with all their heart,
they may not get what they want in the end.
Sometimes, the crops they done can be out for sale and something may just happen and sweep away all their efforts.
This trip also let me understand that farming is just like the different stages of life.
You got to weed, plough, water, harvest and many more.
Every part of the process is crucial for growing.
Without any of it,it wont be able to start growing at all.
For example, weeding, people always thought that it is the least important to do
and often neglect it.
But who knows that plucking out the weeds has a deeper meaning in it ?
Without weeding, the weeds will overcrowd and take away all the nutrients thus letting the crops not to grow.
It applies to our life as well,we need to get rid of those unwanted ones,
so that it wont affect us to develop.
Sometimes, some of the weeds you know will bring your crops to harm,
but you just cant to bear to pluck it off as they are too beautiful.
This is like the temptation of our lives.Everyone know that it is wrong to do that,
but still continue doing so.
Some weeds are very obvious, some are hidden.
Some are beautiful and some even if pluck it out,
there is still the roots that is not pluck out entirely.
Its like the people we know, some you know that they are truely not good,
some hide themselves and act like a hypocrite,
some are whom you thought they were really nice
and some you thought you have get rid of them but not.
I also realise that money may not mean a lot to us,
but a lot to them. This can be shown how we use our money.
Like watching movies, buying stuffs that we want. Etc
Its always easier said then done.
Though I know i will take things for granted and thought that everything should
be the way i want to be still,I will pray to God and tell Him to constantly remind me
about the time at Cambodia ,how much they have endured and how much i have.
